What is an AI tag?
The AI tag is metadata, not a watermark. Generators write C2PA Content Credentials (a signed provenance manifest), an IPTC DigitalSourceType of trainedAlgorithmicMedia, and generator or software strings into EXIF and XMP. Platforms read those fields and attach an 'AI-generated' or 'AI info' label. The pixels themselves are untouched by the tag, which is why a clean, everyday-looking photo can still get flagged.
How to remove AI tags
